Vassilis Kikilias: ‘This year, the end of the tourist season will coincide with the end of the year’

The Minister for Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, referred to the strategy for the extension of the tourist season, which is already bringing results, speaking on the ERT1 show “Me nea matia” and to the journalist Alexandra Kaimenou.

“I have the feeling that this year, in 2022, the end of the season will coincide with the end of the year,” he said characteristically, as the messages coming from the major tour operators are very encouraging. Indicatively, he mentioned that Der Turistik and Apollo – the second tour operator in Germany and the first in Scandinavia, respectively – are already closing travel packages for October, November and December with destinations to Rhodes, Kos, Corfu and Athens. At the same time, direct flights from the US are being extended until the beginning of winter, for which tickets have been snapped up and can hardly be found for August and September.

Mr. Kikilias made a special reference in Karpathos – where he is also for the three days of St. Spirit- and in the hundreds of beautiful, though not so popular destinations of Greece, for which the Ministry of Tourism implements a specific plan with the result that they have already been “illuminated” and upgraded for tourism.

“I remind you, Epirus a few years ago was the poorest region in Europe and we used to say how difficult it is for its inhabitants to live. Now, Ioannina, Aristi, Metsovo, Papigo, are destinations that are sold out all over There are so many and beautiful alternative destinations in Greece, inhabited islands, mainland destinations, in northern Greece, in southern Greece, I want to tell you that here, Karpathos, already has a lot of tourists, a lot of people. “French, Belgians, Austrians, Scandinavians,” said the minister, noting that the hoteliers and shopkeepers he spoke to said they were very pleased with the increased tourist flows observed on the island earlier this year. “Come and see the prices in Karpathos, they are great for Greek travelers and of course for foreigners. It is worth supporting and strengthening such a beautiful destination as Karpathos. It is one of the diamonds of the Aegean,” he said.

V. Kikilias also referred to northern Evia and Samos for which a special discount pass has been provided for those who choose them for their holidays. “To support all of Greece. It is a patriotic duty of all of us,” he said characteristically.
