Vatican installs curtains that will reveal a new Pope in St. Peter’s Basilica

Workers installed red curtains on the balcony of “Loggia delle Benedizioni” in St. Peter’s Basilica on Monday (5), in preparation for the Conclave, which is expected to start Wednesday (7).

As soon as the conclave elect a Pope, the new pontiff will appear on the balcony to greet the crowd and give its blessing as Francis did on March 13, 2013.

About 133 cardinals under 80 should meet in the Sistine Chapel from Wednesday to elect the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church, which has 1.4 billion faithful.

The Conclave happens in how many rounds of voting are necessary until a candidate obtains most of two thirds, triggering the white smoke that announces the world awaiting the beginning of a new papacy.
