The Vatican released Pope Francis’ first photo since he was hospitalized to treat bilateral pneumonia in Rome over a month ago.
In the image, you can see the profile pontiff sitting in a wheelchair on a mass in the hospital chapel on Sunday (16).
According to Vatican’s last health update, Francisco remains stable, confirming progress in treatment. Doctors are reducing the use of noninvasive mechanical ventilation, which the pontiff uses at night to assist in breathing.
Bilateral pneumonia infects both lungs, can inflame them and leave scars, making breathing difficult.
Pope Francis has undergone several health problems in the last two years. He is prone to pulmonary infections because he had pleurisy as a young man, a condition that forced the church leader to remove part of a lung.
