Vegan food becomes more popular

It has been growing among Brazilians awareness of the impacts of food on health, the environment and the animal cause.

The finding comes from a recent research commissioned by Brazilian vegetarian society (SVB), which revealed that 7% of the Brazilian population declares itself vegan.

Performed by Datafolha, the study also points out that 74% of the population agrees, to some degree, with the possibility of stopping meat for the benefit of their own health. Other reasons also appear as relevant in this decision to eliminate meat consumption: 43% of respondents consider the environment a determining factor, while 42% mention the animal cause.

A growing movement

Who adheres to veganism, according to the Vegan SocietyIt excludes, as far as possible, all forms of exploitation and cruelty against animals – not only in food, but also in clothing or other spheres of consumption.

And it is wrong to believe that this is an elitist movement. SVB’s research reveals that just the opposite, when noting the significant presence of vegans in classes C, D and E. This data reinforces the need for accessible and popular options.

Vegan Food for All

Precisely to democratize vegan food and save animals emerged POP Vegan Food That, unlike many restaurants that bet on sophisticated dishes and expensive ingredients, stands out for offering homemade and popular food, based on family flavors to the Brazilian taste.

There, veganism is not a gourmet fashion, but an accessible option for everyone. The proposal is exactly to popularize vegan food.

His three founders, Monica Buava, Ana Carolina Caliman and Guilherme Carvalho, were already volunteers and animal rights activists long before they became entrepreneurs. In 2014, however, the opportunity came to undertake in the food business and since then, partners have been dedicated to offering the most tasty and accessible vegan food.

To serve the largest number of people, Pop Vegan Food operates on several fronts. The restaurant serves buffet at ease at lunch, for $ 20 from Monday to Friday (that’s right, you can eat as much as you want, in the region of Paulista Avenue, and pay only $ 20) and $ 23, on Saturdays and holidays. There is also the hamburger (hamburgers from R $ 12) and pizzeria (rotation for R $ 59, a la carte from R $ 39), which operate at night, and the factory, which distributes vegan products to all of Brazil.

Thus, restaurants, grocery stores and supermarkets can offer accessible vegan options, making food viable for more people, regardless of social class or food restriction (dishes serve not only vegans, but also vegetarians and lactose intolerant). By the way, even those who consume meat loves pop food. So much so that the company serves about 1500 meals a day, and 48% of customers are not even vegetarians.

An ideal for all and for all

And for those who question whether the company’s goal is to generate positive impacts or make profits, the partners explain: while private companies for profit are considered from the 2nd sector and non -profit NGOs, which fight for a cause, are classified in the 3rd sector, social businesses such as pop vegan food are often called “sector two and a half”, because they are in the middle of the two types of organization. “We have as its objectives both the generation of positive change to the world and the business profit generation. The advantage of this organization model is that we have been able to be self -sustaining and scalable, making our ability to generate social impact,” he says Guilherme Carvalho, Pop partner

AND Artemisiahe concludes: “Between making money and changing the world, we get both of them.”
