The automotive industry started 2023 better than it started 2022, with a 5% growth in production in January compared to the same month last year.
In total, 152,700 units were produced last month, including passenger cars, light utility vehicles, trucks and buses. Sales, on the other hand, of 142.9 thousand vehicles last month, rose 12.9% compared to January 2022.
The data are in the first balance sheet of the year by Anfavea, the entity that represents the automakers, and were released this Tuesday (7).
In comparison with December, as usually happens, there was a drop of 20.3% in production and 34.1% in sales.
Automakers hope to accumulate “fat” in the first quarter, when the numbers are compared with a weak comparison base, to reach the end of the year with growth of 3% in sales and 2.2% in production.
There is optimism with the recovery of the supply of electronic components, whose shortage was responsible for stopping assembly lines in the last two years, but also concern with the effect of high interest rates on demand.
Exports, according to Anfavea, rose 19.3% compared to January 2022. In comparison with December, the increase was 5.9%, with 33 thousand vehicles shipped last month.
Anfavea’s balance sheet also shows that 230 job openings were opened in January at automakers, which now employ 102,100 people.
