Venezuela and Argentina express solidarity with the victims of the floods in RS

The governments of Venezuela and Argentina expressed solidarity with the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. Furthermore, Uruguay announced that it will send a helicopter and crew from its Air Force to assist in the rescues.

Argentina expressed “solidarity and condolences” to the families of the victims, making “all immediate assistance” available to care for those affected.

Venezuela's chancellor, speaking on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, also showed support for Brazilians.

The heavy rains that hit the Brazilian state caused record flooding, left Porto Alegre underwater and caused dozens of deaths and injuries.

Almost two thirds of cities affected

Almost two-thirds of the cities in Rio Grande do Sul were affected by the devastating storms that occurred throughout the week, according to a report released this Saturday (4) by Civil Defense. Of 497 municipalities, 300 were affected.

In this Saturday, the Guaíba River reached an impressive 5.10 meters far surpassing the historical record of 1941, which was 4.76 meters.

The level of the Guaíba should remain above five meters for two or three days, according to the hydrologist at the State Situation Room, Pedro Camargo.
