Venezuela Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said on Friday that none of the more than one hundred of Venezuelan deported by the United States for a Salvadoran prison is a member of the Aragua de Aragua de Venezuela criminal gang, which was presented by Washington to expel them.
“I believe, with absolute responsibility, that none of them appear in the organizational chart of the extinct Tren de Aragua organization, none of them,” Cabello said in a podcast, stating that he accessed the names of the deported by the US media and his own source.
US President Donald Trump invoked an 18th century law on Saturday (15) to quickly deport people who, according to the White House, would be members of the Venezuelan gang, declared by Washington as a terrorist group and foreign enemy.
Although a judge quickly blocked the measure, Trump’s government deported more than 200 Venezuelans – 137 under the law of war time – to El Salvador, where they are detained in the country’s anti -terrorism prison for a year, subject to renewal.
Meanwhile, families and lawyers have been seeking news about relatives and clients who can no longer contact and demand their return to Venezuela.
Venezuela says that Aragua’s Tren was effectively eliminated in 2023 and that the idea that it still exists is based on an allegation of the country’s political opposition.
“It’s a lie, a huge lie, and we have the means to prove it,” added Cabello. “Now, if the United States refuses to recognize this reality, this is their prerogative,” he added.
The gang, which began in an arrest in the Venezuelan state of Aragua and is accused of sexual trafficking, commission murders and other crimes, spread in the last decade out of the country of origin, including the US, during a Venezuela migrant exodus, US officials and media reports.
Trump’s government has until March 25 to respond to a court order for details about the deportations. A US judge had ordered the plane carrying the deporteds of this turning.
Cabello said of the 920 migrants returned on five flights since February, only 16 have in progress in Venezuela.
