Venezuela: “Green” for the vaccinated, “red” for the unvaccinated in restaurants and public places

THE Venezuela will install “traffic lights” at the entrances of public places and restaurants that will control the vaccination status of customers, the president announced yesterday on public television Nicolas Maduro.

“We prepare traffic lights (…) for restaurants and public places (…) Green when the person is vaccinated. Orange when not vaccinated but “healthy”. “Red when the person has not been vaccinated and had a positive test within 21 days”, the president announced, saying that the measure will be implemented at the end of October.

This system will work in conjunction with a database that will inform if the person is vaccinated, simply by their identity number, said the vice president Delcy Rodrεςguez.

“Today, we have reached 50% of people who have been vaccinated with the goal of being 70% by October 31,” he said. Maduro, who warned of a recent increase in the number of cases in Caracas.

According to official figures, the country has recorded nearly 380,000 cases of Covid-19 and 4,576 deaths since the start of the pandemic, numbers that are disputed by health officials and international organizations who consider these reports to be underestimated.
