The attorney general of the Venezuelan Public Ministry, Tarek William Saab, said this Monday (29) that the results of each electoral table in the country will be released in the next few hours on the website of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The speech took place before the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as president.
According to the CNE, Maduro won with 51.2% of the votes, against 44.2% for Edmundo González. The opposition, however, disputes the results and claims that it only had access to 40% of the records, according to which González had 70% of the votes.
“The CNE informed that in the next few hours the results will be available on the CNE website, table by table, as has historically been done thanks to the automated voting system that the country has. That is what counts. Not a photocopy,” said Saab.
When talking about copies, Saab refers to minutes with the vote totals that are printed by the ballot boxes after the vote and that are being demanded by the opposition.
According to opposition leader María Corina Machado, many campaign inspectors for Edmundo González who took care of the polling stations did not have access to the minutes.
In addition to the internal requirement, several countries, including Brazil, are requesting the publication of the minutes that prove the number of votes each candidate received, so that there is transparency regarding the totalization of the announced results.
