The death toll from protests in Venezuela has risen to 11, including two minors, according to the NGO Foro Penal. Five of the victims died in Caracas, the organization said.
Alfredo Romero, director of the NGO, pointed out that there is concern about the use of firearms and asked that the cases be investigated.
The protests are taking place for the second day in a row, after Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of the country’s 2024 presidential elections.
The opposition disputes the result and claims that it has access to a sufficient number of electoral records that would confirm Edmundo González’s victory.
At least 749 detainees
Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab reported on Tuesday (30) that there are 749 people detained after what he called acts of violence.
He denied that the demonstrations after Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of the presidential elections were peaceful.
Maduro blames opponents
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro blamed candidate and opposition leader Edmundo González and María Corina Machado for the “criminals and injuries” two days after the presidential election.
“I hold you responsible, Mr. González Urrutia, for everything that is happening in Venezuela, for the criminals, for the injured, you will be responsible and you, Mrs. Machado,” said Maduro this Tuesday (30).
