Venezuelan citizen faked his kidnapping to steal $ 1.15 million BTC

Venezuela’s National Police Department is looking for a 23-year-old man who allegedly faked his own kidnapping to steal cryptocurrency.

According to Douglas Rico, director of the Venezuelan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, authorities are looking for a fraudster who allegedly faked his kidnapping in order to steal $ 1.15 million worth of bitcoins.

Andrés Jesús Dos Santos Hernández told people who had previously entrusted their BTC to him for use in a revenue-raising scheme that the cryptocurrency had been stolen. According to Hernandez, he was kidnapped and forced to transfer assets from the Binance exchange to numerous addresses.

Authorities believe the story is a cover for the fraudulent activities of Hernandez, who decided to go into hiding with crypto assets. Its location is currently unknown. He allegedly fled with $ 1.15 million worth of bitcoins.

In early summer, it was reported that the founders of the South African investment platform AfriCrypt, Amir and Raees Kajee, had stolen 69,000 BTC from users. However, the founders of AfriCrypt deny these allegations.
