Among the symbionts, you know, you can never rest easy, and Venom – Carnage’s Fury, available on demand on Sky Cinema from 16 April, is no exception. Three years after the success of the first chapter, Tom Hardy returns, in fact, in the role of journalist Eddie Brock, this time busy trying to pull from the mouth of the ruthless serial killer Cletus Kasidy where the corpses of his victims are buried. In their last interview before the death sentence, however, Cletus manages to provoke Eddie and make him get close enough to bite him, thus giving birth to a scary new symbiote: the Carnage which gives the title to the film.
From here begins an adventure with no holds barred that, between breathtaking special effects and endless twists, cthe catapults once again in the universe of Venus guided by the sex appeal of Tom Hardy, by a Stephen Graham in a state of grace; by a Woody Harrelson who proposes himself in the most sketched version of himself, and by the great Michelle Williams. Also central to this tour will be the relationship with Brock and his symbiotewho would like to eat the criminals but also be a hero, giving rise to an existential conflict that will lead Eddie to desire a more peaceful life with his beloved Anne, in the meantime engaged to Dr. Dan.
The fight with the double, overcoming jealousy and a crescendo of uncontrollable brutality are the secret ingredients of Venom – Carnage’s Fury which, thanks to the skilful direction of Andy Serkis, manages to drag the viewer into a parallel world in which the legacy of a cumbersome past coexists – underlined above all by the violent childhood of Cletus – and by thedark humor which tends to appeal not only to fans of the genre, but also to families. The result is a film that miraculously managed to make the box office catch up in times of pandemic, marking the best opening since the appearance of Covid, the symbiote with which we are still called to confront.
