Versailles alert ends – Two and a half hours after bomb threat

The palace of of Versailles evacuated today and it remained closed for about two and a half hours after the bomb threat. In the early afternoon, it reopened its gates, although it was initially known that it would remain closed today.

She was second time in a few days that the popular tourist attraction has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. The previous one was on Saturday, when the Louvre Museum and Gare de Lyon train station in Paris.

French network BFM TV, citing police sources, reported that police pyrotechnicians had gone to the palace, but “no explosive device was found”.

“It’s a very worrying and tense situation, but we can’t stop living,” said 72-year-old Jean-Pierre Breon. A 19-year-old tourist from Switzerland, Margarita Costa, did not hesitate to admit that she was shocked: “We are not used to similar situations.”

The Palace of Versailles it was built in the 17th century by King Louis XIV and was the main royal residence until the French Revolution. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is visited by 10,000-15,000 people every day.
