In the ranking of the best in the world and holder of a Michelin star, the carioca Lasai is on the list of best new restaurants in the world in 2023 . The conclusion is from Condé Nast Traveler, a specialized magazine that annually publishes its “Hot List” with the best novelties of the year.
Captained by the chef Rafael Costa eSilva Lasai is one of the 21 houses around the planet chosen by the publication’s team alongside establishments in New York, Tokyo, Paris, Mexico City and Buenos Aires, for example.
The international magazine praised the restaurant’s “version 2.0” and the chef’s performance with ingredients he grows on two nearby farms. “Lasai has established itself as a top destination in the Marvelous City”, says the publication.
It is worth remembering that Lasai stopped working last year in a townhouse in Botafogo, where it had been since 2014, and moved to a much more intimate address nearby, in Largo dos Leões, in Humaitá.
As Fabio Wright said in his column on CNN Viagem & Gastronomia, the new version of the restaurant now serves a very limited number of people for a more intimate experience with a tasting menu.
New home
The new Lasai is housed in a modern, windowless room that features a marble counter and dramatic lighting, serving just 10 diners per night. Customers sit at the counter and witness the preparations from start to finish.
Following a worldwide trend, vegetables are protagonists or co-protagonists in most recipes, ranging from snacks to dessert.
Thus, chef Rafa Costa e Silva and his wife, the American from Mexican family Malena Cardiel, serve contemporary cuisine with 12- to 14-course tasting menus (R$ 950 per person), in which the house works only by reservation.
Currently, Lasai appears in the 20th place among the 50 best restaurants in Latin America, in addition to raising the 78th position among the 100 best in the world. The house has held a Michelin star since 2015.
