Via Poma, the criminologist Lavorino: “The killer is a left-handed with group A blood”

“The murderer in Via Poma was left-handed, had blood type A and knew the building where the crime took place well.” The criminologist Carmelo Lavorino has been studying the crime story for thirty-two years that still today makes Italy talk. He analyzed the crime scene and the testimonies of work colleagues and people close to Simonetta Cesaroni, the girl killed on 7 August 1990 in the offices of the youth hostels, where for some time she had worked two afternoons a week as accountant. Her killer has never been found. Lavorino, who is convinced he knows the killer’s name, has written several books on the case. The last one, Via Poma – Structural deception three, is published by StreetLib.

What do you think of the new investigation everyone is talking about?
“Looks like a storm in a glass of water to me. Pointing the finger at the president of the hostels, Francesco Caracciolo di Sarno, will lead nowhere. He didn’t kill Simonetta ».

Why do you think so?
«Every theory, every hypothesis that is put forward, must be supported by concrete elements. In this case there are several elements, and they do not lead to the president of the hostels. The first is that we know one hundred percent that the killer’s blood is Group A DQalfa 4/4. We are told by the stains found on the phone and the one found on the inside of the door of the office where the girl was killed. Simonetta had blood type 0 ».

The killer left his signature. What is the second element?
“When he examined the body, the coroner concluded that the girl had been hit with a slap on the right temple with her left hand. She then she went limp and the unsub stabbed her. The wounds were inflicted with the left hand. This is confirmed by an expert opinion ».

Was the killer left-handed?
“Of course. Another very strong element is that the murder weapon is a letter opener. The coroner who examined the body also came to this conclusion. In my opinion it is the letter opener that was in the room of an Aiag employee, who could not find it on the morning of 7 August. In fact, she used that of a colleague. At 3 pm the woman left, never having found the letter opener. However, that same night, when the police arrived on the scene, the letter opener was on her desk. It was slightly folded and washed, with no trace. This means that the killer knew who the letter opener belonged to, but not that the owner had looked for it that same morning. Therefore, we are dealing with a “territorial” subject, who has placed the clean letter opener where, according to his knowledge, it should have been ».

So, he is a person who frequented that office.
“There’s more: the killer enjoyed special protections and the complicity of another person who cleaned the premises. After killing Simonetta, the attacker attempted to clean up in a disorderly manner. Then he phoned someone, who in my opinion is always a territorial and who has completed the cleaning, which mainly consisted in erasing all the fingerprints of the unsub. Finally, there is the question of the time of the crime ».

Meaning what?
«For years we have been told that Simonetta was killed after 5.45 pm. This is because a colleague reported talking to her at that time. However, the examination of the gastric contents in her stomach plus the fact that the girl usually had a snack at 17, and instead that day she did not eat the pizza she had brought from home, lead us to believe, and not only to me, that the murder took place between 4.15pm and 4.45pm, so an hour earlier than we think. It must also be said that the same colleague who claims to have talked to Simonetta on her phone, during the trial began her deposition on her phone call, explaining that it had taken place at 4.15 pm. Then she corrected herself. ‘

Why would he lie?
“Moving the call time forward was to keep herself and two other people out of the way. It must be said that, after the discovery of the body, all the colleagues declared that they did not know Simonetta, all distanced themselves. They didn’t want to get involved, each wanted to hide their pranks. Then an order from above must also have arrived ».

What do you mean?
«It is well known that AIAG was also a communication center linked to the Sisde, the Italian internal defense system. From there, information on the young people circulating within our country was passed on. The director of the AIAG had an office in via Cavour, above the apartment of the chief of police Vincenzo Parisi, who had also been head of the Sisde. There was a very strong friendship between them. It is no coincidence, in my opinion, that the second person to enter the offices in Via Poma after the discovery of the body was Parisi’s son-in-law, who was also part of the Sisde ».
