«Unfortunately we were unable to renew our licensing agreement with Siae. The protection of the copyrights of composers and artists is an absolute priority for us and for this reason, starting today, we will start the procedure to remove the songs from the SIAE repertoire within our music library”. Thus a spokesman for Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, breaks the news that throws influencers, social media managers and followers into panic.
“We believe it is a value for the entire music industry to allow people to share and connect on our platforms using the music they love. We have licensing agreements in over 150 countries around the world and we will continue to strive to reach an agreement with SIAE that satisfies all parties.”
So no more music? Actually no, it’s not that all the songs disappear, but only those that don’t fall within the Siae repertoire will continue to be available. That said, however, the mood of Facebook and Instagram will certainly change: it is known that the right song combined with the right post can make the difference in terms of diffusion and success of communication.
