Vice President Harris is heading to Paris for a five-day visit

US Vice President Kamala Harris left today for Paris, where she will spend five days, hoping to consolidate reconciliation between the two countries after the crisis in their relationship due to a contract for the sale of submarines in Australia.

Harris’ plane departed at 21:30 Washington time (today at 03:30 Greek time).

The duration of her visit, from November 9 to 13, underscores the White House’s desire to turn the page after the announcement of the new defense agreement (AUKUS) between the US, Australia and Britain, after which Canberra was concluded. canceled a submarine purchase contract from France, preferring the US.

Prior to Kamala Harris, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had traveled to Paris to defuse tensions. For his part, US President Joe Biden met with his French counterpart Emanuel Macron ten days ago at the French embassy in Rome.

Harris will be received by Macron at the Elysee Palace tomorrow, November 10, to discuss “European security, the Indian and Pacific region, and global health,” the White House said in a statement.

The agenda is expected to include strengthening cooperation between France and the United States in the space sector, according to a joint statement issued on the occasion of Biden’s meeting with Macron.

The US vice president will also go tomorrow with her husband Doug Emhoff to the American cemetery in Siren, near Paris.

On November 11, “Veterans Day” in the United States, Harris will attend ceremonies marking the anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended World War I. On the same day she will be present at the Paris Peace Forum organized by Macron, while on November 12 she will participate in the international conference on Libya.
