Caixa employees reported to the CNN , on condition of anonymity, “collusion” and “participation” of other bank managers in episodes of sexual and moral harassment. They also claim that women who take the matter to higher levels end up retaliated. The case is being investigated by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF).
“It is the connivance and also the participation of other Caixa managers, who not only knew… The cases were brought to their attention, but also participated in some of these occasions, in the harassment”, said one victim.
Last Wednesday (29), executive Pedro Guimarães resigned from the presidency of Caixa after a report on the website “Metrópoles” revealed accusations of moral and sexual harassment. He had been at the bank since the beginning of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government.
Employees describe a climate of “fear” within the bank. “Since the beginning of management, we have lived under pressure and fear all the time. No one can speak unless you are put in a relationship with people who are not grateful, you are persecuted.”
They also talk about episodes of moral and sexual harassment, which took place inside the bank, but also on trips on the Caixa Mais Brasil program. Reports range from name-calling to abuse. “He [Guimarães] takes the opportunity to let the hand travel through our body, through the breast, the buttocks, legs”.
The employees report the relief that was the resignation of the executive, but also the concern with the other directors who remain in the bank. “There won’t be anyone doing this with our colleagues this weekend, in an edition of Caixa Mais Brasil, on the way up to a meeting, wherever it may be. This is our expectation and hope.”
In a note released on Wednesday night, Caixa informed that “it repudiates any type of harassment and that it received, through its whistleblowing channel, reports of cases of this nature in the institution”. According to the bank’s press office, the investigation is under wraps. THE CNN found out that the new president, Daniella Marques, intends to set up a crisis committee.
