Victor Godoy is made official in place of Milton Ribeiro as Minister of Education

It was published in the edition of the Official Gazette (DOU), this Monday (18), the decree that makes Victor Godoy official as Minister of Education.

Until then the executive secretary of the portfolio, Godoy took over the MEC on an interim basis since the departure of Milton Ribeiro, at the end of last month. He is the fifth name to head the MEC during the Bolsonaro government.

The publication was signed by President Jair Bolsonaro, who had already anticipated the effectiveness of the CNN, in an exclusive interview this Saturday.

“I already gave the order to carry out, because he is only acting as an interim, he has certain difficulties, even in locomotion. What is agreed, if nothing happens to Minister Milton, he returns”, said Bolsonaro.

Milton Ribeiro’s departure

Ribeiro announced his resignation from the portfolio on Monday, March 28. The exoneration was published in an extra edition of the “Official Journal of the Union”, signed by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“I will not say goodbye, I will say see you soon,” said the former minister in a letter delivered to Bolsonaro. Ribeiro is the subject of an investigation by the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) on suspicion of favoring pastors in the distribution of funds from the Ministry of Education (MEC).

Given the suspicions, Ribeiro, who was invited to appear in the Senate to provide clarification on the case, says that he decided to “request my resignation from President Bolsonaro, so that there is no uncertainty about my conduct and that of the president.” Federal government”. In the draft of the letter, Ribeiro also says that he must return to the folder. “After my innocence has been demonstrated, I will be back, to help my country and President Bolsonaro on his difficult but victorious journey.”

In an audio obtained by the newspaper “Folha de S.Paulo” and in reports from “O Estado de S. Paulo”, Ribeiro is involved in what would be a scheme to favor pastors in the ministry.

In a recorded conversation, the minister says that he received a request from President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for the release of funds from the portfolio to be directed to specific prefectures from the negotiation made by two evangelical pastors who do not hold positions in the federal government.

Last week, Ribeiro denied that he had favored pastors. In a note sent to CNN, the minister also said that the president “did not ask anyone for preferential service, he only asked that he could receive everyone who came to us”.
