Former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro was preventively arrested, this Wednesday (22), in Santos. The warrant was issued as part of a Federal Police (PF) operation that took place on Wednesday.
In an interview with the press, Education Minister Victor Godoy stated that he has given the necessary support to the Federal Police’s investigations into the portfolio and that the government does not condone possible irregularities.
“I carried out a series of information surveys, forwarded everything to the control bodies. Everyone knows that, in August of last year, when we became aware of the first complaints on the matter, I myself signed the letters to the CGU minister, requesting an investigation”, he said.
“Today, we have a team from the Federal Police that was received by us and has had all our support to have all the access they need for their investigations”, added the minister.
Godoy said that the investigations take place in secrecy and that he does not have access to details.
“The investigations run in secrecy, I do not have access to the investigations. So far, we do not have the conclusion of these investigations. If any person who has committed any wrongdoing is proven guilty, this has to be held accountable,” she said.
Victor Godoy was the executive secretary of the portfolio and is the fifth name to head the MEC during the government of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“Our government does not condone any type of irregularity or deviation, even more education resources. We all know the moment we have been living in Brazilian and world education with the pandemic. Our efforts are for us to clarify all the facts and punish all those who may have committed any irregularity”, he said.
Note of clarification from the MEC on the operation of the PF
The Ministry of Education clarifies that today (22) it received a team from the Federal Police to continue collaborating with all investigation instances that involve the previous management of the portfolio. In order to clarify all issues, the MEC reinforces that it continues to contribute to the control bodies so that the facts are clarified as soon as possible. The MEC emphasizes that the Federal Government does not condone any irregular act and will continue to collaborate with the investigations.
