Victoria’s Secret is coming to the Metaverse

Victoria’s Secret has filed four patent applications for digital collectibles and media materials for use in the Metaverse.

The American lingerie and beauty brand has turned its attention to the need for a presence in the metaverse and has begun registering ownership of virtual clothing collections.

Trademark lawyer Michael Kondoudis announced the beginning of the patent work. He tweeted that on February 13, 2022, Victoria’s Secret submitted four bids for digital collectibles, online apparel and media reels for later use in virtual worlds.

The trademark registration implies that in the future, Victoria’s Secret plans to have a presence in the metaverse and is going to offer users virtual branded items.

In mid-2021, Victoria’s Secret announced a new strategy for the company. The brand, in particular, has abandoned its main symbol, angel models, inviting instead seven women who are “known for their achievements, not proportions.”

The movement towards virtual technologies was a continuation of a new strategic direction. According to the head of Victoria’s Secret Martin Waters (Martin Waters), “the brand was too slow to respond to changes in the world.”

In early February, fashion house Gucci bought a plot in one of the largest metaverses of The Sandbox, where it plans to create a virtual fashion world for Generation Z.
