“Holi is an important festival for Hindus because on that day there was a victory over all evil. On that day, all animosity and jealousy between people is put aside, and people embrace each other and celebrate Holi.”, explains Indian artist Amit Kumar.
To mark the beginning of spring, Indians celebrate Holi, the famous Festival of Colors. This year, the celebration took place on March 8. Holi is celebrated across India, from Cape Comorin to Kashmir. On that date, Indians from all social classes prepare typical dishes, wear new clothes
“It is a very important festival for Hindus because on that day there was a victory of good against evil. It has many colors: each one of them has a meaning and Indians want to have them in their lives. On that day, envy and disputes are put aside, people embrace and celebrate”, says Kumar.
“Holi has many colors and Indians crave to have all of them in their lives. The tradition of the festival is to throw the colors at each other. There are four main colors: red, yellow, green and blue. Red represents love and affection, green symbolizes nature in our society, blue is the color of Krishna, and yellow represents turmeric.”
In addition, pyres are set on fire in order to burn out antipathy and all social ills.
This Sunday (12), at 7:15 pm, the CNN displays the Destination program, which will show details about the festival.
