Video: app driver drags woman and child out of car in RJ

A woman and her 5-year-old daughter were dragged by the arm by an app driver after a disagreement about the race. The case occurred last Sunday (31), Easter day, in the city of Volta Redonda, in Rio de Janeiro. According to the victims, the attacks occurred after the driver refused to follow the route indicated by the passengers.

According to reports from her mother, Taiene Priscila de Oliveira, she asked the driver to take another route to drop off a friend who was in the car on the way. She says, however, that the driver refused. In addition to Taiene and her daughter, her sister, a nephew and her friend were in the car.

Taiene stated that he asked the driver to go through Rua 2, not Rua 4. The destination, however, would not be changed. The service provider allegedly refused and said that he would follow the route indicated in the application.

“There are usually app drivers who ask which street is best, because sometimes the app shows more than one street option. And then we gave him this opinion”, he stated.

At one point, according to the victim's report, the app showed two routes and the driver asked which way he should go. Taiene's sister said to follow what was on the app, as the driver had said previously, when he responded harshly that he would follow his route, said the passenger.

After the victim's sister insisted that the driver follow the app's route, the man stopped the car, got out of the vehicle and opened the back door where Taiane was holding her daughter in her lap. The driver told them to get out of the car, and pulled the woman by her purse. He was unable to get the woman out of the car and the bag broke.

According to reports from the passenger, her sister got out of the car when she realized that the driver was being aggressive. “My daughter, very nervous, started crying. I hugged her in the car to prevent her from looking at everything that was happening,” she said. The nephew and his friend also went down to ask for help.

Then, the driver got into the car again with Taiene and her daughter in the car and took off with the car when both rear doors were open. “He left in a different direction to another neighborhood, I didn’t know where he was taking me or what he was going to do. I was very nervous asking him to take me back home,” she said.

The driver stopped the car again and pulled the woman and daughter out of the car. He dragged the two across the street and left in the car with their belongings and shoes, which had injuries to their knees and arms.

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police stated that the case was registered at the Women's Assistance Police Station (Deam) in Volta Redonda. The victim was interviewed and the unit contacted transport app platforms to locate the driver. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the incident.

A CNN contacted 99 and is awaiting a response.
