The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said on Sunday (01) that he has forgiven his son, Hunter Biden. He previously promised to stay out of legal proceedings against his son, who pleaded guilty to tax violations and was convicted of firearms-related charges.
The White House has repeatedly said Biden would not pardon the sentences of Hunter, who has suffered from a drug addiction problem that has become a target of Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump.

Biden said on June 13 that he would not pardon his son Hunter, who was convicted on June 11 of lying about his drug use to illegally purchase a gun in 2018, making him the first child of a sitting U.S. president to be convicted of a crime.
In September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to federal charges of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes while spending lavishly on drugs, sex workers and luxury items. He was scheduled to be sentenced in that case on December 16.
