Police officers from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) exchanged fire with plainclothes officers from the 9th Military Police Battalion (Rocha Miranda), the so-called P-2, during a joint operation in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Saturday (17 ).
A security circuit captured the intense exchange of gunfire between the police officers. In the video, the police officers shoot their colleagues, and it is also possible to hear a dialogue between the police officers. At the beginning, one of them asks: “Where’s the pistol? Where’s the pistol.” Then, another says: “Priority here, my brother” and gives instructions to the team saying: “Fence down there”.
The same police officer also warns the others saying: “The guys ran, man. Fence over there.” In just over a minute of video, it is possible to hear at least 70 shots. The Military Police did not say whether any officers were injured.
This Saturday (17), police officers from BOPE and 9ºBPM carried out actions in the communities of Jorge Turco, Mundial and Proença, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, and arrested 14 suspects involved in the attempted invasion of Complexo da Pedreira, in the neighborhood of Costa Barros, last Thursday (15).
In a statement, the Rio de Janeiro Military Police confirmed that the episode recorded by the cameras is true and that it happened during the operation. “The corporation already has the images, which will be analyzed and studied among the institution’s operational teams so that episodes like this do not happen again,” said the ministry.
