So, AMD has introduced the world’s first video cards based on a dual-GPU graphics processor. These are the Instinct MI200 line accelerators.

They can be called video cards conditionally, since we are still talking about a specialized accelerator focused on data centers and servers, but technologically it is precisely the GPU and video cards that are simply not created for games.
So, at the moment we are talking about two models: Instinct MI250 and Instinct MI250X. Technically, they differ only in the number of active stream processors in the GPU.

At the heart of both new products is a new GPU, codenamed Aldebaran. It is manufactured using the 6 nm process technology and is based on the CDNA2 architecture. In the case of the Instinct MI250X, it has 220 active computing units, that is, 14,080 stream processors, while the Instinct MI250 has 208 blocks and 13 312 stream processors, respectively. The GPU frequency in both cases is about 1.7 GHz. 128GB of HBM2E memory is clocked at 3.2GHz, which, combined with an 8192-bit bus, delivers 3.2TB / s of bandwidth.

As a result, the performance of the older model is 47.9 TFLOPS (FP32 and FP64) and 383 TFLOPS (FP16), while the younger model is 45.3, 47.9 and 362 TFLOPS. However, AMD gives another value for the cards – Matrix Performance. MI250X has 95.7 TFLOPS (FP32 and FP64), while MI250 has 90.5 TFLOPS. As a result, AMD not only calls the new solutions the first Exascale class accelerators, but also speaks of the MI250X as the world’s fastest accelerator for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

Separately, up to eight channels of the Infinity Fabric interface can be noted for connecting GPUs with Epyc processors. The new items are made in the form factor OCP Acceleration Module with passive cooling and are characterized by a TBP (Total Board Power) of 500 W with a peak value of 560 W. Later versions of MI210 will be released in the form of conventional expansion cards with PCIe interface.
