A driver was fined and was suspended on Tuesday (20) in Rio de Janeiro, after trying to circumvent an Operation Prohibition Blitz. The inspection took place on Avenida Brasil, one of the main expressways of the state capital.
During the action, a drone, operated by agents, caught the moment the driver stopped the car a few meters before the blitz and switched to the ride. After registration, the vehicle was approached, and both – driver and ride – underwent guidance to perform the breathalyzer test.
As the passenger refused to take the test, he was fined $ 2,934.70 and had CNH suspended for a year.
The inspection is part of May Yellow’s actions, a month of awareness to reduce traffic accidents. During the operation, which extended until dawn on Wednesday (21), 369 vehicles were approached and 40 people were charged with alcohol.
“It is the whole month of driver awareness and education, who unfortunately insist on drinking and driving. We are here with all our means of inspection, which are drones, motorcycles, besides our teams,” said Lieutenant Colonel Patrícia Monteiro, Superintendent of Prohibition.
