A couple of Jacundá fish and dozens of babies were found swimming inside a flooded house after heavy rains that hit the middle Araguaia region, in Cocalinho, 765 km from Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso, last Sunday (19).
The images were recorded by fisherman Eduardo Martins Lopes, 38 years old, at the house of a friend called Tião. According to Eduardo, his friend called him after noticing the presence of fish in the house. The house was invaded by water due to the increase in the level of the Cristalino River, a consequence of the intense rains in the region.
In the video, you can see the fry gathered in a corner, under the protection of the two adult fish. See below:
Eduardo Martins Lopes reported to CNN the surprise upon encountering the scene: “I have never witnessed a scene like that at home”, reported Eduardo.
As Eduardo is dedicated to fishing and has knowledge about fish, he went to the location and identified that it was a Jacundá couple with their cubs.
Due to the unusual situation, Eduardo said that he and the residents of the house even fed the fish.
Eduardo concluded that the experience was unforgettable, as in more than two decades dedicated to fishing, he had never witnessed such a situation.

The situation occurs amid an orange alert for intense rain issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) for 114 cities in Mato Grosso, this Monday (20).
