Video Games: Over 2.7 billion followers worldwide

More than 2.7 billion people in the world play video games either on an occasional or regular basis, which means that almost a third of the Earth’s total population (7.8 billion) are “gamers”, according to data from the international statistics platform statista.com.

As far as Greece is concerned, according to converging estimates, the specific market is developing at a very fast pace and this is proved by the large participation of the events dedicated to gaming in our country. Before the pandemic, more than 25,000 people may have been on the same internet site to share their hobbies and spend their free time. But the pandemic also played a catalytic role in the development of gaming, as the lockdown regime led even more to the world of online games.

It is characteristic that according to data from the international platform statista.com, the fanatical users who deal with online video games on average consume about 3.5 hours on weekdays, while on weekends they can exceed 6 hours, having created a huge market worldwide. Special “Gamer” products first appeared in terms of computers, laptops and peripherals, followed by special chairs, tables, glasses and dozens of products made exclusively for gamers in almost every category by many well-known international brands. In some countries, restaurants even prepare special menus for gamers.
