A puppy jaguar Male, less than 90 days old, was rescued on the afternoon of last Friday (25) in the backyard of a residence located near the Horto Florestal of Assisi, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The animal was found scared and showing signs of debilitation, raising the hypothesis of having separated from his mother.
The Environmental Police and the Fire Department were called and rescue the puppy. Then the animal was sent to the APASS (Cetras) Wild Animal Screening Center (ASSIS and Region Wildlife Protection Association), where it received the first precautions and underwent clinical evaluation.
See below:
The APASS technical team found that the puppy had several injuries to the body, possibly resulting from attacks from other animals, as well as signs of dehydration. It is receiving hydration, proper power and veterinary follow -up for its recovery.
The puppy will remain under observation in Cetras until it is fully restored. Only then will the team evaluate the possibility of rehabilitation and eventual release in their natural habitat.
APASS reinforces that cases like this, unfortunately, have become frequent and underline the importance of preserving natural environments to ensure the safety of wildlife.
The institution guides the population that, in case of meeting with wild animals in urban or at risk, immediately trigger the competent bodies: the Fire Department by phone 193 or the Environmental Military Police by 190.
