A retired police officer from the city of Mildura, in South Australia, went viral when he faced a giant kangaroo that was trying to drown his dog by the neck.
In the video, released last weekend, the man says when he sees his pet trapped: “I’m going to punch you in the head, let go of my dog!” Unsuccessfully, the Australian confronted the animal, which retaliated and dropped his cell phone into the water. When the image returns to the two, the kangaroo appears, standing, watching the man and no longer holding the dog, which swam to the edge of the lake.
In an interview with ABC News Australia, Mick Moloney said he was doing morning exercises when he noticed one of his pets was missing. Shortly after seeing the marsupial, he noticed the dog emerging from the water with difficulty breathing.
Also in an interview with the local TV network, a representative from the Wildlife department explained that kangaroos are wild animals that see humans and dogs as predators. The spokeswoman said that the dog probably tried to attack the kangaroo and that, therefore, the animal retaliated as a survival instinct.
Moloney said that the dog is doing well and that they will continue with their routine of morning walks around the lake.
