According to the Drug Trafficking Unit at the Juazeiro do Norte Regional Police Station, the man had already been arrested in the act in 2018, also for drug trafficking. At the time, he was being investigated for selling drugs in the region, mainly to middle and upper class university students.
After four months in detention, in 2018 the student was released to await trial in freedom. During this period, he moved to Pernambuco to study medicine.
With the arrest warrant issued after the conviction, the student’s location was identified through investigations conducted by the Regional Police Station of Juazeiro do Norte, in collaboration with the Intelligence Coordination of the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense of Ceará. The operation also had the support of the Civil Police of Pernambuco.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense of Ceará reported that, at the educational institution where he was located, the convict was approached and taken to a police unit.
“The man must serve a 13-year sentence, initially, in a closed regime. Now, he is available to the courts”, says the ministry.
