Between 8 pm yesterday (5) and 8 am today (6), the Bate-Papo AstronĂ´mico observatory recorded 447 electrical discharges in the region of Santa Maria, a city in the central part of the state.
Lightning is detected by radio frequency, at a distance of up to 40 kilometers from the sensor. See images below.
The number recorded is lower than the amount of lightning seen in the sky, since the flashes can be seen in the sky even if the lightning is happening about 100 kilometers away.
In addition to the electrical discharges, the Observatory recorded wind gusts of up to 61 km/h and 38 mm of accumulated rain during the night.
According to Climatempo, the weather is expected to remain unstable throughout the state on Tuesday. Rain is forecast throughout the day, with a warning of storms in the southern half of the state.
Tomorrow (7), the cold front will move to the Southeast, but there is a possibility of rain in the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul.
Temperatures are expected to start falling in Rio Grande do Sul on Wednesday due to an approaching polar air mass. Frost may be recorded in the state on Thursday (8) and Friday (9).
