Video of the Day: Samsung Unveils 200MP ISOCELL HP1 Image Sensor

As we already reported, at the beginning of the month Samsung introduced the world’s first mobile image sensor with a resolution of 200 megapixels. It is called ISOCELL HP1 and currently holds the record for resolution in its category.

Today, the South Korean manufacturer published a video in which he described and showed how the sensor works. More precisely, how the binning (pixel combining) modes 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 work. In the first case, a pixel of 1.28 µm is formed from four neighboring pixels with a size of 0.64 µm, and in the second, 16 pixels are combined. The size of the “superpixel” in the second case is 2.56 microns. Large pixels allow better low-light shots. In addition, the manufacturer mentioned HDR support and the Smart-ISO Pro feature. As for phase focusing, it is realized using Double Super PH technology and again uses pixel grouping.
