Tesla has posted a video showing a battery manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. This is part of a campaign to recruit new employees that Tesla needs to build similar production lines at new factories in Germany and the United States.

Tesla unveiled the new 4680 battery cell in September 2020 and announced the creation of large, flat cells that should dramatically increase battery density.
While Tesla has been involved in the development of new battery cells in the past, the automaker has always relied on suppliers like Panasonic to produce cells for its electric vehicles. However, in order to create new cells and reduce costs, Tesla had to develop new manufacturing processes and rethink the production of battery cells. In introducing the new elements, the manufacturer said it expects to increase capacity and reduce cost per unit of capacity.
The company is already producing new cells in small volumes at a “pilot plant” in Fremont. By the end of the year, Tesla expects to increase the annual production capacity of this plant to 10 GWh and master advanced technologies in new plants. In particular, a plant in the suburbs of Berlin is set to become Tesla’s first 4680 battery production facility.
