Alphabet’s Waymo has arguably the smartest car autopilot. But sometimes he can get into a situation from which he cannot get out, or he will not do it right away.

The author of the video ordered a taxi from Waymo One, and for a while the car was driving without any problems. But then traffic cones appeared on the road, which confused the autopilot, and for a long time he could not decide what to do.
Moreover, after the first problem was solved, the second appeared in the form of the same cones, and the car stopped again.
At the outset, the passenger was contacted by Waymo’s dispatcher for advice and assistance. As a result, it was the employee of the company who took over the management. Waymo cannot control cars remotely, or this option is used in extreme cases.

While driving fully autonomously through an extended working area, Waymo’s autopilot detected an unusual situation and requested assistance from a remote technician to provide additional information. During this interaction, the response team provided incorrect directions, which made it difficult for the autopilot. Although the situation was not ideal, the autopilot drove safely until the roadside assistance arrived.
