Video: Police vehicle makes prohibited turn and collides with BRT in Rio de Janeiro

A vehicle from the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PMERJ) collided with a BRT while making a prohibited turn on the articulated lane in Jacarepaguá, this Wednesday morning (29). The accident happened at the Rio 2 station.

In the images released by Mobi-Rio, the company that manages the BRT, it is possible to see the moment when one of the internal cameras of the affected articulated vehicle captures the collision with the vehicle, which rolls over on impact.

In moments, the BRT moves backwards, and people passing through the area try to help the police officers affected by the crash.

A CNN , Mobi-Rio reported in a statement that there were no injuries in the accident. The company also highlighted that “the use of the BRT rail is exclusive to BRT buses. Improper use of the gutter, in addition to causing accidents, disrupts the operation of the system.”

Via X, the Rio Operations Center reported that a BRT lane and rail were closed.

PMERJ expressed itself in a statement and reported that the vehicle involved in the accident was from the 18th BPM, located in Jacarepaguá. Furthermore, he highlighted that “an internal investigative procedure was established to analyze the circumstances of the accident.”
