A family experienced scenes of violence in the Ipiranga neighborhood of São Paulo last Tuesday (11). Videos recorded by residents show military police after breaking the door of a residence using a shock weapon against a resident and assaulting him with punches.
According to the police report, military police were patrolling when they spotted a man assaulting a woman on a public road. When they tried to approach the suspect, he would have fled into a residence.
The police then broke into the gate of the house and entered the property. However, the suspect of the aggression was not found.
During the search, the resident of the residence, identified as Vitor and his girlfriend, questioned the police action and asked them to withdraw.
Amid the discussion, the PM identified as Fidel, used a shock weapon against Vitor, who fell to the floor. The images recorded by witnesses show the moment the resident is hit. See below:
After using the shock weapon, Vitor ran to a room, where he was followed by the police. The agents used physical strength to immobilize him and hit him with punches.
Vitor suffered heads and chest injuries resulting from the use of the shock weapon and immobilization.
He was taken to the Ipiranga Hospital Emergency Room, where he received medical attention and was released. The PM also suffered a hand injury during the action.
Lawyer Reinalds Klemps, who represents the victim, classified the action of agents as a “double illegality.” Klemps criticized the invasion of the residence and the aggression against his client, classifying it as “unfair and coward.”
“First for the invasion of the home and second by the unfair and cowardly aggression directed to our client in front of children,” said the lawyer. “There was no evident crime situation that could justify the invasion by the police.”
“We look forward to the completion of the investigations and that the offenders are held responsible,” said Klemps.
The Military Police reported that they are investigating the conduct of the police and the circumstances of the occurrence. The body cameras images of the agents will be analyzed.
The case was registered in the 16th Police District (Vila Clementino).
