The Russian Defense Ministry released videos on Wednesday (11) of anti-submarine warships and aircraft from the Northern Fleet hunting “enemy” submarines in the Barents Sea.
The exercise is part of the “Ocean 2024” naval training, the largest in the history of post-Soviet Russia, launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the war games will involve more than 90,000 military personnel, over 400 ships and 125 aircraft and will run until September 16 across a vast area that includes parts of the Pacific and Arctic oceans and the Mediterranean, Baltic and Caspian seas.
Putin said Russia must be ready for any developments and accused Washington of provoking an arms race. He said in particular that the US was preparing to deploy short- and medium-range missiles in the Asia-Pacific.
