A bus carrying mainly schoolchildren skidded off a road and plunged into a river in northwestern Syria on Thursday, killing at least seven people and injuring 20 others, emergency workers said.
The white bus was seen overturned and wrecked as dozens of people swam near the vehicle, images released by a local civil defense organization known as White Helmets showed. Rescuers climbed rocks on the cliffside in search of survivors, while medical staff tended to victims, video footage also showed.
Reuters was unable to confirm the location and date the videos were filmed.
The bus was on a school trip when the vehicle left the road in the Ayoun Ara area, west of the city of Idlib, and fell into the Orontes River, a White Helmets statement said. It is still unclear what caused the bus to leave the road.
