Security cameras caught the exact moment a hotel was hit by a missile in Kievin the capital of Ukraine.
The impact spread across the city and was felt at the Ukraine Palace, the cultural center with the largest concert hall in the country.
Another camera, inside the palace, shows the glass broken by the impact of the explosion. Two men fell just inside the entrance, quickly got up and ran for cover.
Outside the palace, glass doors and windows exploded into shards just as a man walked across the parking lot.
The images released now show what the Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights has called the “terror of New Year’s Eve”.
Russia launched more than 20 missiles at the turn of 2023 and, at the beginning of this year, sent yet another signal to the West that it will not back down from the war.

Russia, the United States and China are in a race to develop these weapons, seen as a speed advantage: five times faster than sound.
