A security camera recorded the moment when Aparecida Donizeti Berigo Blesio, aged 60, allegedly poisoned cats on a street in the interior of São Paulo. To date, 26 animals have died after consuming the substance, found in pieces of meat.
The woman was arrested last Thursday morning (9) for the crime, which, according to the police, took place on December 27th and 28th, 2024, in São Joaquim da Barra, (SP).
In a video obtained by CNN it is possible to see the suspect throwing the food near a tree when some cats approach the poisoned food. Additionally, another woman is also seen in the images. Look
According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, the case began when a resident reported to the police station that 15 of her cats had been found dead.
Other cats were also found dead in the same region. The operation that resulted in Aparecida’s arrest was registered as an act of abuse against animals and the capture of a wanted person.
The suspect’s lawyer, Vinicius Magalhães Guilherme, sent a note to the CNN and questioned the court decision. According to him, the preventive detention “was based solely on the abstract gravity of the crime and the popular outcry”.
The defender stated that he will file a habeas corpus petition at the São Paulo Court of Justice to seek the client’s freedom.
According to Gustavo de Almeida Costa, the delegate responsible for the case, the suspect is being held in the São Joaquim da Barra public prison.
