Ten people were arrested for integrating a criminal group investigated for 12 cargo thefts on the BR-116 highway in ParanĂ¡. It is estimated that the gang caused a loss of $ 3 million. The action took place on Wednesday (14), in the cities of Curitiba, Campina Grande do Sul, four bars and CorbĂ©lia, all cities of ParanĂ¡.
The criminals wandered along the BR-116 highway, in the border region between ParanĂ¡ and SĂ£o Paulo. The target was trucks that carried electronic equipment.
According to the Civil Police, the criminals acted with intense aggressiveness and in all cases registered there was firearm firing at the drivers. In one of the robberies the truck overturned after the driver loses control of the vehicle due to the bandits’ shots.
The trucks were taken to dirt roads in the vicinity of the highway so that the criminals would transfer the load to another vehicle. Between January and May this year there were about 12 truck thefts. Sometimes more than one approach were performed on the same day.
Investigations began in October 2024, after a supposed cargo theft in Campina Grande do Sul, in the Curitiba Metropolitan Region. It was later discovered that the driver carrying the cargo had participated in the crime and reported a false theft.
“Following, those involved were monitored and we found that they were related to several cargo thefts in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba and the city of Barra do Turvo, SĂ£o Paulo,” explains Civil Police delegate AndrĂ© Feltes.
The Civil Police served 15 search and seizure warrants, with the support of a helicopter and 60 civil police. At the scene were found cargo from theft, firearms, balaclavas, amounts of cash, cell phones and portions of drugs.
