A 240-meter television tower in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv broke in half and fell to the ground on Monday (22), images obtained by Reuters showed, after what local authorities said was a Russian airstrike on television infrastructure.
The transmission signal was interrupted for Ukraine's second-largest city, which was hit by Russian missile and drone attacks last week.
“At the moment, there are interruptions in the digital television signal,” said regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
There were no casualties because the workers were in shelters, he added.
Dramatic footage from the scene showed the tower's main mast breaking and falling as a cloud of smoke rose into the sky. It was not clear from the images what hit the mast.
The video was confirmed from another video with another angle showing the same moment the top of the tower collapsed.
Russia first attacked the Kharkiv television tower in early March 2022, shortly after its full-scale invasion.
The signal was interrupted at the time.
