A baby and a woman pregnant with twins were rescued by helicopter by Navy personnel this Sunday morning (5) amid the major floods affecting Rio Grande do Sul.
The victims were on the roof of a house. A soldier rappels down to the area where people were waiting. The woman and baby are arrested alongside the soldier, who begins the ascent back to the helicopter. Two trips were made.
The journey time from the roof to the aircraft lasts around 30 seconds. The rescue took place in the neighborhood of Mathias Velho, in Canoas. The city is in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre.
The Navy reported that it participates in search operations for victims in Rio Grande do Sul with aircraft, vessels, and land vehicles. Marines operate in the transport of food, water and fuel.
Another Squirrel aircraft, from the 1st General Employment Helicopter Squadron of the West (EsqdHU-61), is moving from Pantanal to Rio Grande do Sul to reinforce the actions.
