Vieira intensifies management by Brazilians in the Gaza Strip and speaks to Iranian and British foreign ministers

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, intensified management so that the group of Brazilians can leave the Gaza Strip and, this Friday (3), spoke with his Iranian counterparts, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and British, James Cleverly.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas was the subject of both calls, according to people close to the Brazilian chancellor. Discussions surrounding a solution in the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the Rafah crossing, an escape route for civilians.

On social media, Itamaraty reported that Vieira spoke with Amir-Abdollahian about “the humanitarian situation in Gaza, in light of Brazil’s presence in the UN Security Council, and the prospect of the repatriation of Brazilians”.

Regarding the call to Cleverly, the ministry stated that, “in addition to strengthening bilateral relations, they addressed the alarming security and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip”.

Earlier, the Brazilian chancellor had already spoken with Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen, about the departure of Brazilians from the Gaza Strip.

“Minister Mauro Vieira spoke again on the phone today with Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen. Vieira reiterated the efforts to release the passage of Brazilians stranded in Gaza, so that they can be immediately repatriated to Brazil, via Egypt”, informed the Itamaraty, in a post on a social network.

“It was the third phone call between both ministers in recent weeks and the first since the opening of the Rafah border post, between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, which took place last Wednesday, 1/11”, he adds.

The talks take place after the third consecutive day in which Brazilian citizens are not included in the list of foreigners authorized to leave the Gaza Strip.

The list reported by the Egyptian government this Friday (3) has 571 names from Germany, the United States, Italy, Indonesia, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Of the total, 367 are North American citizens and 127 are British.

On Thursday (2), of a total of 576 foreigners authorized by Egypt to leave Gaza, 400 were from the United States.
