Viktor Bout, the Russian arms dealer who was negotiated for the freedom of athlete Brittney Griner, notified his wife and mother that he is in Russia with a phone call on Thursday, according to Russian state broadcaster and news agency. TASS.
During the phone call, Bout assured his relatives that he was fine. According to the broadcast, a special aircraft carrying Bout made a stop in the Russian city of Makhachkala for refueling.
The prisoner exchange was successfully completed at Abu Dhabi airport on Thursday, Russia’s foreign ministry said.
The statement confirmed that Abu Dhabi received American basketball star Brittney Griner on a private plane from Moscow after Russian authorities released her, while Bout was received on a private plane from Washington after US authorities released him, in the presence of of experts from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
