Viola Davis declares her love for Brazil: “Every time I come back, I feel like I’ve changed”

The American actress Viola Davis who celebrated her 59th birthday on Sunday (11), once again declared her love for Brazil. In an interview with Vogue, the star of the series “How to Get Away with Murder” spoke about her special connection with the country, a relationship that was recently highlighted during the Paris Olympic Games, when Viola celebrated the achievements of Brazilian athletes through posts and comments on social media.

When asked about her plans to visit Brazil again, the artist didn’t have to think long before answering: “All the time. I love Brazil. I love, love, love it. I love how it slowly reveals itself. And it does so through the people. Oh, and the food is just rich…. I’m always full.” [risos]. Every time I come back from Brazil, I feel like I’ve changed. Salvador and Rio are two magnificent experiences. I think I gain about ten pounds when I go there. It’s all very good.”

Viola, who is part of the select “EGOT” group – formed by artists who have received the four main awards in North American entertainment: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards – also spoke about the recent launch of her own book publishing company, JVL Media.

“We’re looking for new voices of black people. Sometimes we’re forgotten by the industry. And we’re looking to amplify the voices that are on the periphery, that are knocking on the door trying to get in. What we’re looking for are life stories and these actors are telling their stories in all genres,” he explained.

“Also, we’re trying to have autonomy over our own voice. When you own the intellectual property, when the material is yours, you have control over your story. And what we don’t need right now in Hollywood is someone taking our stories, manufacturing them and sending them out to the general public without any of the original voice. I think that’s our legacy as a Black production company,” he continued.
