The American actress Viola Davis was announced this Monday (15) as part of the cast for the film The Hunger Games: The Song of Birds and Serpents. The Oscar winner will play Doctor Volumnia Gaul, the main antagonist of the story.
Through social networks, she celebrated the announcement: “happy to be part of this universe”. The film is scheduled to premiere in November 2023 and is named after the 2020 book it is inspired by.
The story created by Suzanne Collins takes place about 60 years before the films already released, and shows the beginning of the journey of Coriolanus Snow, aged 18, to the rise to power. Davis’ character is responsible for producing the 10th edition of the Hunger Games, and will use the then young student in her project.
At that time, Snow still didn’t look like the tyrant who ruled the capital with an iron fist, because his family is going through an extremely complicated financial situation and loss of social prestige. He then applies to mentor the tributes of the districts that will compete in the Games.
“Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus begins to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive, no matter what.
Actor Tom Blyth will play Snow in the film, while Rachel Zegler will play Lucy Gray Baird, the tribute assigned to the protagonist.
The cast also includes Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), who will play Casca Highbottom; Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore), who will play Lucky Flickerman; Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), who will play Tigris; and Josh Andrés Rivera (Amor, Sublime Amor) as Sejanus Plinth.
