Intense reactions and a wave of indignation has been triggered by the raw attack on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, in the city of Chernivchi, West Ukraine. The attack was manifested as a violent attempt to occupy the church, which belongs to the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC – under the Moscow Patriarchate), by a group of people allegedly linked to radical circles of the Orthodox Orthodox Church. According to testimonies, about 50 people invaded the cathedral and attacked clergy and faithful, accusing them of relations with Russia. The perpetrators allegedly excluded all entrances to the temple and beaten anyone trying to reach the site. The injured include priests and parishioners, many of whom had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
